Why Did You Want to Become An Orthodontist?

Dr. Barfield gives a close family friend all the credit when it comes to his choice to become an orthodontist. During his early college days, his friend literally spent hours on end with him describing the wonderful experience of being a dentist. This piqued Dr. Barfield’s interest, and he was eventually drawn to orthodontics because he saw the dramatic improvements it could make to someone’s mental and physical health.

Where Did You Study Orthodontics?

Dr. Barfield earned his dental degree at the University of North Carolina (where he met THE Michael Jordan), and then he completed an Advanced General Dentistry Residency with the US Air Force. He then served as the Staff Comprehensive Dentist at Barksdale Airforce Base, before returning to his hometown to practice family and esthetic dentistry for 16 years. He went on to complete a Residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Nevada.
