Understanding Dental Insurance for Orthodontics
You know that dental insurance can be used to cover checkups and cleanings, but what about braces or clear aligners? It’s not so straightforward with most policies, but thankfully, the team at Duo Orthodontics is here to cut through all the jargon and help you save. Our team is familiar with the ins and outs of several popular plans, so no matter who your provider might be, we’re ready to maximize your benefits to make you or your child’s care easily affordable. You’ll find some general tips below, but to get more personalized information based on your situation, all you need to do is give us a call.
Understanding How Dental Insurance Works
Dental insurance is primarily designed to help patients afford preventive care and basic restorative services so they can avoid most major dental issues and take care of minor ones as soon as they pop up. Fortunately, most plans also offer orthodontic coverage, which often comes in the form of a pre-set amount of money set aside for each person on a plan. Rather than paying for a percentage of a treatment, the majority of plans dedicate a flat amount of money towards orthodontics, and once it is gone, it’s gone. This tends to be enough to cover a large portion of a treatment, though the specific amount can vary from plan to plan.
What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers
Almost every dental insurance plan will offer orthodontic coverage for metal braces, especially for patients 18 years old and under (coverage for adults is less common). Some are also willing to cover clear aligner treatments, but this is not guaranteed across all plans. Insurance can usually be used to offset the associated costs with orthodontic care as well, such as checkups, X-rays, adjustment appointments, and so on so that a patient saves money across their entire treatment.
We Offer In-Network Savings & Welcome Out-of-Network Providers
Duo Orthodontics is in-network with several PPO dental insurance plans, which means we’re able to offer the highest amount of savings possible and file claims extremely quickly. At the same time, we also welcome out-of-network plans, and we can still use them to help patients make their treatments more affordable. Depending on the policy, the difference between the in-network and out-of-network rate is negligible, but what can’t be ignored is the quality of care and service you’ll enjoy at our practice.
We are in-network with the following plans:
- Delta Dental
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- United Healthcare
- United Concordia
- ...and many more!
