As 2021 comes to a close, we reflect on the (strange) year it was and look forward to the next. Hopefully, better things are to come in 2022 – and, while a lot is out of our control, you can still resolve to make small changes that will improve your life. Like taking better care of your smile! Keep reading for 5 ideas for resolutions that will help you love your pearly whites again – like visiting your orthodontist in Marietta, for one.

1. Start with the basics

One of the most beneficial things you could commit to in the new year is brushing and flossing regularly. It may seem obvious, but many people skip these crucial aspects of a healthy smile. Even forgetting occasionally can have a negative impact on your oral health. To prevent cavities and gum disease, make sure you are brushing at least twice a day and flossing between teeth daily.

2. Look into braces – finally

Many adults would like to straighten up their teeth, but may not ever take the plunge. But with clear options like Invisalign and ceramic braces offering a subtle alternative to metal braces, there has never been a better time to seek orthodontic treatment. Start 2022 off with a visit to your orthodontist to find out what your options are, and you could be ending the year with the straight, beautiful smile you have always dreamed of.

3. Eat better for your smile

Healthier eating is a common resolution for people who want to lose weight, but did you know that consuming more fresh fruits and vegetables and drinking more water will benefit your oral health as well? That’s right – you can prevent cavities and gum disease by steering clear of simple carbs, desserts, and dehydrating beverages like coffee and caffeinated soda. Apples, leafy greens, nuts, and pure H2O are all on the healthy smile menu.

4. Brighten those pearly whites

If you are interested in a quick way to rejuvenate your smile, teeth whitening may be a great option. Both take-home and in-office treatments are available, depending on your timeline and budget.

5. Protect your teeth

If you play contact sports or grind your teeth at night, taking steps to protect your smile will help to prevent tooth injuries that may require expensive emergency treatment. Resolve to talk to your dentist about a mouthguard for sports or for nighttime teeth grinding.

There you have it – five New Years’ resolutions to help you enjoy a healthier, more beautiful smile in 2022 and beyond! Commit to one or more of these and you’ll be so glad you did by the time next year rolls around.
